Tech News & Gear

Games run on hardware — and hardware is where half the news (and most of the money) lives. This hub covers consumer tech through a gamer's lens: console hardware and accessories, PC components from GPUs to SSDs, handhelds, and the gear announcements actually worth your attention. Same house rule as everywhere on this site: confirmed and rumour never share a badge, and we don't print prices we haven't checked.

01 — The latest

Fresh off the news hub

As of today, tech stories run in the same daily briefs as game news — a GPU announcement, a console price move or a handheld launch gets the same dated, sourced, badged treatment as a release-date change. If it matters to people who play games, it lands in the news hub first; this page is where the standing picture lives: what's current, what's announced, and what is still only talk. Release dates for hardware-adjacent launches are also pinned to the Release Radar alongside the games.

02 — Console gear

The console shelf

Console hardware moves slower than PC, but the accessories market never sleeps. This is the gear we track — what it does, who it's for, and what to check before spending. No star ratings bought, no prices invented: check the current price at your retailer, in your currency (the switcher at the top of this page converts the US figures used across the site).

Controllers
Watch
Pro-style controllers trade on back buttons, remappable profiles and battery life. What to check: whether your platform officially supports it, and whether the extra buttons are usable in the games you actually play.
Storage expansion
Watch
With flagship installs like GTA 6 reported at up to 212 GB, internal expansion and fast external drives are the upgrade most console owners feel first. What to check: your console's exact expansion format — they are not interchangeable between platforms.
Headsets & audio
Watch
Wireless headsets differ mainly on connection type (dedicated dongle vs Bluetooth), mic quality and multi-platform switches. What to check: whether one headset can cover both your console and your PC, if you play on both.
Docks, stands & charging
Watch
The unglamorous shelf: controller charging docks, console stands with cooling, and capture/streaming pass-through gear. What to check: official licensing where your console maker requires it, so a firmware update doesn't strand your accessory.
03 — PC hardware

PC hardware watch

The current desktop GPU lines are NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50 series and AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series — that much is on shelves. Beyond that, the honest headline of 2026 is memory: AI-datacentre demand has squeezed RAM and storage supply, and console and component pricing has moved with it (the full story is in the PC Gaming hub). This section tracks the four component stories that matter most to players.

Graphics cards
Current: RTX 50 · RX 9000
Next-generation lines have not been announced by NVIDIA or AMD — no names, dates, prices or specs. Leaker timelines have already slipped once; treat "leaked benchmarks" as entertainment until a manufacturer says otherwise.
Memory & SSDs
Squeeze ongoing
DRAM and NAND supply is the year's defining constraint, pushing up RAM kits, SSDs and anything with memory inside it — consoles included. If you're planning a build, this is the line item to watch weekly, not yearly.
Handheld PCs
Category watch
Handheld gaming PCs are now a permanent category, not a novelty: new models compete on screen, battery and how gracefully they handle a desktop OS on a small display. We track launches and major revisions as they're announced.
CPUs & platforms
Watch
Processor generations matter to gamers mostly at upgrade time — socket longevity and memory support decide whether a new chip is a drop-in or a rebuild. We cover confirmed platform announcements, not roadmap rumours dressed as news.
04 — Worth watching

What's worth watching

Three standing stories this hub keeps an eye on, badged the way we'd badge any game: Project Helix, Microsoft's next Xbox hardware programme, was confirmed at GDC 2026 — a custom AMD chip, playing Xbox and PC games, dev hardware from 2027 (details in the Xbox hub). A PlayStation 6 has not been announced — Sony has only said next-platform development is progressing, with no name, date or price. And the memory squeeze above is the thread connecting almost every price story of the year. When any of those three moves from talk to announcement, it leads the news hub the same day.
